Today we travel...

We have been anxiously waiting for this day to come ... and its finally here.
Today we set out to a destination that I never really expected to visit until about two years ago when it hit me that the time had come for me to see the land of my husband's birth - Guyana.
The trip had set backs because of timing and cost in fact timing in this instance relates to cost...tickets are cheaper in the Easter than in the Summer (...a whole lot cheaper).
So the trip was booked with the grace of God at our side.
It's the Easter break for me and our little lady but my husband still had to work...that seemed hectic but he managed, even being on the Good Friday program for church. (Miss T is quite proud of her dad...as he got back to his seat she hugged him and whispered "You're good at drawing and at speaking now Daddy, am proud of you". His face lit up.)
We had started packing a few days earlier, at least the stuff we didn't have to use and were sure we were taking.
×:::×
It seems a bit overwhelming now...probably anxiety...but am OK.
Packing for a destination you've never visited before might be a tad bit thought provoking but knowing that Guyana is more humid and closer to the equator helps to decide the wardrobe. Packing denims/whites/blacks/greys then adding some colour so we can mix and match as the occasion arises I believe is my master plan.
As for the shoes...when in doubt its better to add than subtract...besides you must already know how they fit to choose them.
A few 'hacks' if you may call them by that term:
* make copies of your most important documents...and email them to yourself or store them online...this help if, God forbids, they get lost.
* throw in some plastic bags...they're handy for your dirty clothes or for separating items
* since you cant take liquids through, pack an empty water bottle for when you get past all the checks.
*put some honey and a slice of lemon in a thermos and ask the flight attendant to fill it with hot water when you get settled but don't forget your favorite tea bag.
* bring the external battery pack for the cell or tablet. Relying on your phone for everything can quickly drain the batteries.
* a small power strip may help when there only one or two outlet and you don't want to seem selfish with using it.
* get to the airport early, no mad dashes, no telling what can happen, traffic, something important forgotten...give yourself time.
* board early for all the overhead space and to avoid your luggage going in cargo.
* choose a good scarf to keep you warm and use as an eye shade for the waiting time nap.
* deep pockets help to keep passports and boarding passes in close reach.
* for less hassle avoid belts or choose one with no metal buckle, slip ons or slippers are best, put your watch and wallet in your hand bag or backpack, save the jewelry for after security checks.
